Judge Joseph Loper, Jr., accepted guilty pleas in Montgomery County Circuit Court last week.
Katerrian C. Purnell pleaded guilty to simple assault. Purnell was indicted for aggravated assault in connection with a November 6 incident where a man was reportedly struck in the head with a pistol, however, as part of the plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to the lessor charge, which is a misdemeanor.
Purnell was sentenced to serve six months in jail. He must also pay court costs, fees, and assessments.
Deon Jones pleaded guilty to touching a child for lustful purposes. He was sentenced to serve a term of 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 13 years suspended for five years, and two to serve. Upon release he will be placed on supervised probation for a period of five years. He must pay all court costs, fees, and assessments, and he must register as a convicted sex offender with the Mississippi Department of Safety within three days of his release and comply with sex offender registry requirements.
Justin Palmertree pleaded guilty to possession of one-tenth or more but less than two grams of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with three years suspended for three years. He will be placed on supervised probation for three years, and he must pay all court costs, fees, and assessments.
Robert Knox pleaded guilty to possession of more than one-tenth gram but less than 10 grams methamphetamine. He was sentenced to serve three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of , with one year and one day to serve, and one year 264 days post-release supervision. He was also ordered to pay court costs, fees and assessments. A sentence enhancement for a habitual offender was dismissed.
Sam Varner, charged with felony malicious mischief, was ordered to wear an ankle monitor and had a $25,000 bond set.
Christopher Olton pleaded guilty possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, eight years to serve and two years post-release supervision. He was also ordered to pay court costs, fees, and assessments. A sentence enhancement and an additional charge were dismissed.
Devonte Stewart, who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault last month in connection with the armed robbery at Winona Dry Cleaners, was sentenced to 10 years in custody with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and ordered to pay court costs, fees and assessments.
Also in Montgomery County Justice Court, the indictment against Jessie O’Bryant for Cyberstalking, in connection with an incident that occurred on August 24, 2019, were dismissed by Judge Loper.
