An inmate who escaped from the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility Saturday was captured late Monday evening not far from the jail.
Tolando Young of Kilmichael allegedly escaped from the Vaiden facility approximately 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 16. According to Carroll County Clint Walker, he scaled three 12-foot fences topped with razor wire before fleeing into a wooded area north of the jail wearing his orange, CMRCF-issued jumpsuit.
Walker said law enforcement officers from six different agencies joined Carroll County deputies on a three-day manhunt for Young, who was being housed in the jail for a parole violation. Walker said Young was convicted in Montgomery County for grand larceny.
According to Walker, around 11 p.m. on Monday, a sighting of Young in a wooded area on County Road 15 in Vaiden was reported to deputies. Young was spotted by law enforcement, and after a brief foot chase, he was taken into police custody.
“It looks like he stayed out in the woods the entire time,” Walker said. “He was wearing coveralls and boots. It is believed he stole the coveralls and boots from a shed behind a residence.”
Walker thanked the Webster County K-9 Unit, Mississippi Highway Patrol Helicopter, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Winona Police Department, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections for their assistance in the search for Young.
