Delta Electric Power Association and Delta Fiber LLC, Delta Electric’s wholly owned broadband subsidiary doing business as DE LightSpeed, along with the Towns of Carrollton and North Carrollton, jointly announced the future expansion of Delta Electric’s existing high speed, fiber optic Internet network into the towns of Carrollton and North Carrollton. The Boards of Aldermen for both towns approved agreements whereby Delta Electric will build a fiber optic network in each town that will interconnect with its existing network and allow DE LightSpeed to provide broadband Internet services and VOIP telephone services to households and businesses within their respective towns. Support for these municipal broadband projects was provided by the Mississippi Legislature through the leadership of Representative Karl Oliver of Winona.
“The expansion of our fiber optic network into these towns makes perfect sense since we are already on their doorstep and it will vastly improve the quality of life for the residents and businesses of each town. We look forward to working with both towns,” said David O’Bryan, General Manager of Delta Electric.
“The Town of Carrollton is excited about the opportunities this high-speed service will provide for our residents. We appreciate the willingness of DE LightSpeed to work with us on this and Representative Karl Oliver for making the funding possible,” said Carrollton Mayor Pam Lee.
“We look forward to working with Delta Electric here in North Carrollton with their internet service here, this partnership will be very beneficial to our town by providing broadband and it will also be an advantage for economic development. We appreciate all the hard work that has gone into making this project a reality and North Carrollton being awarded the funding. This will truly be an investment for the future here for our citizens in our town moving forward in the 21st century,” said North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan.
Construction of the fiber optic network is estimated to take from nine to 12 months. DE LightSpeed will ultimately offer symmetrical internet service speeds up to 1,000 Mbps (download and upload) or Gigabit service to households and businesses in the towns along with residential and commercial VOIP telephone services. There are no data caps or data throttling, and contracts are not required with DE LightSpeed services. “The broadband services that will be offered in the towns are very consumer friendly,” said Mr. O’Bryan. DE LightSpeed also participates in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and the federal LifeLine Program that helps eligible households who struggle to pay for internet service.
DE LightSpeed currently offers broadband and telecommunication services in Attala, Carroll, Grenada, Holmes, Leflore, Montgomery, and Webster counties.
