Anna Turner, representing the Mississippi Crossroads Farmers Market, expressed profound gratitude as the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting commenced on March 4. Reflecting on the market’s humble beginnings, Turner began her presentation by recalling the initial gatherings of only three vendors by the courthouse on Saturday mornings during the summer. Since then, the market has undergone significant expansion.
“We’ve experienced exponential growth,” Turner explained. “Today we proudly boast 20 plus vendors with countless others eager to join.”
She further conveyed to the Board that the success of the Mississippi Crossroads Farmers Market has served as an inspiration for neighboring counties to establish their own markets.
“We have sparked a ripple effect of positive change that resonates far and wide,” Turner said.
She also thanked the Board for their previous support and sponsorship of the market.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude for sponsoring us last year,” Turner said. “Your financial contributions were instrumental in allowing us to take the vital step of applying for a nonprofit status, a milestone that we eagerly are awaiting confirmation on.”
Turner then asked the Board for their support and sponsorship to sustain the vital work of the Mississippi Crossroads Farmers Market. She highlighted that the financial support would be allocated to critical areas such as marketing initiatives, operational expenses, and other improvements. After deliberation, the Board approved to give $1,000 to the market.
The Mississippi Crossroads Farmers Market committee will be meeting next week to determine the opening day for the market. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, a vendor meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on March 27 at the Montgomery County Extension Office, located at 618 Summit Street in Winona.
