The Kilmichael Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential fire emergency on Jan. 1, at 1107 Hill Street. The call came in at 2:34 p.m. from a resident who found herself trapped inside the home. Three other people were also in the residence at the time. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, all occupants had safely evacuated the house.
The department deployed three fire trucks and thirteen firefighters to battle the blaze, with MedStat Emergency Medical Services also responding to the scene. Fire crews worked for two hours to extinguish the fire, using approximately 4,500 gallons of water in the process.
According to Fire Chief Dave Eldridge, while the fire caused extensive damage to the bedroom, kitchen, and carport areas, the remainder of the home sustained smoke and water damage. It is believed that the fire originated from an electric heater in the resident's bedroom.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
