Fathers and family members of students at Marshall Elementary joined them for donuts on Jan. 20 for a “Donuts for Dads” event hosted by the Marshall Parent Teacher Organization.
“One of the dads just mentioned he’d seen someone else [at another school] had one,” said PTO member Domonique Curry-McKinney. Curry-McKinney explained that the PTO thought it was a wonderful idea, and began planning accordingly.
“The kids really loved to have their dads [go through] classrooms,” said Curry-McKinney. “You could see the joy on their faces.”
According to Curry-McKinney, a total of 124 dads or family members were in attendance at the event.
In a social media post, Carroll County Schools called the event a “Huge success…a delightfully delicious outing between fathers and their child or children.”
The students spent time with their fathers or other family members eating donuts at the school gym in the morning.
“You could really tell that it made a difference with the children,” said Curry-McKinney, “We hope to have more in the future.”
