Carroll County received state funding in the amount of $13,000 from the Mississippi Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters Premium Pay Program.
According to a press release provided by Sheriff Clint Walker, which he received from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Office of Grants Administration (MSDPS), “The Mississippi Legislature has given the [MSDPS] the responsibility of providing funds to law enforcement officers and firefighters as premium pay for their heightened risk during the ongoing federal COVID-19 public health emergency.”
The release also states that payments “will be in the amount of $1,000 for each eligible individual.”
“Eligible individuals must be certified, full-time and part-time law enforcement officers or certified, full-time or part-time firefighters who are currently serving in the State of Mississippi as of July 1, 2022…eligible law enforcement officers and firefighters must complete the required COVID-19 training,” the release explained.
The board voted to approve the funds to be distributed to Sheriff’s deputies in the amount specified in the release to each deputy, with District 4 Supervisor Claude Fluker making the motion, and District 3 Supervisor Edward Dill Tucker seconding the motion. The board voted unanimously.
In other board news:
● The board approved an inmate rate increase of $5 at the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility with District 2 Supervisor Josh Hurst making the motion and Fluker seconding.
● BRV Equipment, a bridge building and repair company from Tchula, offered their services to the board, who asked to receive a quote on a bridge at the North Carrollton Rec. Park. They will also be receiving quotes from other companies.
● Eddie Howze, a property owner in Carroll County, addressed the board a fourth time regarding his tax assessment and talked with Tax Assessor Wilton Neal.
● The board approved a one-year contract with Waste Pro for Carroll County Regional Correctional Center, the Rec. Park, and roll off containers. Tucker made the motion, and District 5 Supervisor Rickie Corley seconded the motion.
