Funeral services for David H. "Bubba" Ross III, of Carrollton, were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3 at Providence Baptist Church in Carrollton, with burial following at Midway Cemetery near Vaiden. The Rev. Kevin Tribble officiated the funeral service, with the Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating the graveside service. Pallbearers were Rivers Irby, Chase Irby, Donnie Cain, Matt Hester, Tyler Estes, and Kendall Blaylock. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Tingle, Jerry Shaw, Donald Arnold, Preston Pittman, Kenny Wise, George Gillespie, Sheriff Clint Walker, his Carroll County Sherriff's Office family, his National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) - Mississippi family, NWTF - Louisiana family, and NWTF - Alabama family.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 3, from noon until service time at the church.
David H. "Bubba" Ross III, 61, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Merit Health River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. He was born in Greenwood to David and Dorothy Johnson Ross Jr. on May 25, 1964. He worked as a dispatcher for Carroll County Emergency Operations and was owner of Ross Custom Calls, where he was nationally known as a craftsman of his turkey calls. He was a member of Mississippi Turkey Hunters, a Diamond Life Member of the NWTF, an inductee into the Mississippi Wildlife Heritage Museum Hall of Fame in Leland. He enjoyed competing in turkey call competitions, many of which he won. For a time, he was an instructor of Shop/Machinery for Holmes Community College at the Grenada Campus. He was also an avid gardener and firefighter serving with the Carrollton-North Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Carrollton.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Lynn Ross of Carrollton; daughter, Shelby Christensen (Cooper) of Houlka; two sons, Chase Irby (BreAnna) of Etta, and Rivers "Rip" Irby (Mallorye) of Collinsville; sister, Mary Nell Carnaggio (Jimmy) of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Heidi Lynn Ward, Oakley Jane "O.J." Christensen, Tallie Shane Christensen, Lainey Chase Irby, and Archie Rivers Irby; and three nieces and two great-nephews, who he loved as his own children, Courtney Blaylock (Kendall) of Starkville, Paula Estes (Tyler) of Millport, AL, Lynn Hester (Matt) of Starkville, Connor Blaylock, and Logan Estes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Evelyn Ann Ross and David Michael Ross.
