Carroll County began damage assessments Saturday morning for homes and roads that were damaged by the tornado Friday night, March 14, and early Saturday morning, March 15.
“The assessments were done for public assistance on the category for the road damage and individual assistance was the category for the homes that were damaged. The damage assessments were entered through Crisis Track, the state reporting system, which included pictures that were taken at the location with the coordinates.” Carroll County Emergency Management Director Ken Strachan said.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency was brought in Sunday afternoon to use a drone to document damage from an aerial view.
“We used the drone in both the Hickory Grove Community and the Calvary Community near the Grenada County line which was in the path of the tornado” Director Strachan said.
According to Carroll County Emergency Management Director Ken Strachan the Carroll County Board of Supervisors signed a Proclamation of Existence of a Local Emergency and a resolution requesting the governor to proclaim a state of emergency Saturday afternoon, March 15.
In addition, regarding local power outages following the storm, Director Strachan stated Tuesday morning, “I talked with Tim McBride with Delta Electric in Winona. On their side, everybody is on as far as residential. They are working on some yard lights that got knocked out.”
He clarified, “That is the Winona coverage area of Delta Electric that serves Carroll County.”
According to the MEMA official website, which lists the statistics for the March 14-15, 2025 tornado damage, seven deaths have been reported statewide as a result of the tornado. The website states that according to the current damages reported by Carroll County, 4 homes, 1 farm, 1 business, and 10 roads sustained significant damage as a result of the tornado weather Friday night and Saturday morning. As damages are still being assessed state and county wide, and reports are still being verified, these numbers may change as progress is made.
