We are just days away from Christmas 2024 and it sure brings back memories from years gone by. There are so many acts of kindness that are remembered by so many this year and as in the past. From where we see the Salvation Army red kettles and people ringing bells at stores, these donations make a difference. It’s important to talk to children about how that money is used to help others and encourage them to set aside some of their money to donate. Also not every child will receive a Christmas present this year, which is heartbreaking. This state is known for generosity and our faith based organizations have made a difference in people’s lives.
We can look no further than the scriptures: Hebrews 13:16 states “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
This past Saturday I participated in the Wreaths Across America Day which began with a ceremony at the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton in the courtroom. We left there and headed to Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, where I placed a reef on Daddy’s grave, as so many volunteers did here. I’m proud this program is here in Carroll County, to remember and honor.
Back when Daddy was living, Rev. Joseph Sansing and members of New Bethel Baptist Church came to Daddy’s house prayed and sang Christmas carols. These memories came back fast on that winter afternoon when I was placing wreaths this past Saturday.
Christmas can be a lonely time for those who don’t have family around and also, those who are in need. So, do what you can to bless someone this Christmas and the Lord will also bless you. The special memories through the years are many with people of this community from years past.
This past Monday night I attended the Winona Christmas parade where I was a judge, it was a great parade and everyone involved did a great job. We were setup in front of First Baptist Church on Summit Street. Through the years I have always enjoyed the Winona Christmas parade. Kathy Thomas, president of the Bank of Winona was also a judge for the parade we both remembered the Winona Christmas parades from the past growing up in this area. As Seth Kent from WONA radio station announced the participants as they came by you could feel this will be an occasion that will be remembered for many years to come.
Keeping in mind the memories of the past and looking to the future, wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas 2024.
