The town of North Carrollton was notified Tuesday, March 11, by certified letter from Governor Tate Reeves to North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan that the town has been approved for $599,989 Community Development Block Grant by the Mississippi Development Authority for sewer improvements.
“In the grant the work will consist of at the lagoon in the western portion of the town and also near the Industrial Park at Van Meter and Mary Streets in the eastern portion,” Mayor Strachan said.
Some of the work includes installing a new Chlorination/De-Chlorinator with a 4’x 4’ fiberglass building, flow meter, and concrete slab for fiberglass building, upgrade of sewer lines, and manhole rehabilitation.
“We are proud to have been awarded these funds. This will be a tremendous upgrade to our infrastructure and public works, for this improvement will be a cost savings on repairs not having to be made in the future,” Mayor Strachan said.
The award letter Governor Reeves wrote to Mayor Strachan stated, “Through this application for funding, the town of North Carrollton has demonstrated its local commitment to addressing the community development needs in Mississippi. I commend you for this initiative and for helping to improve the quality of life in your community.”
“We appreciate the work North Central Planning and Development planner Beverly Yeoman did for the application, all five of the board of alderman who assisted with getting the required surveys done, along with City Clerk Lyndera Williams, and former Deputy Clerk Hazel Hearn. This funding is a testament to good work from dedicated people working together,” Mayor Strachan said.
There is no match required for the grant, if the amount requested had been $600,000 and over it would have been a match required. The town looks to run advertisements for bids this spring with construction beginning in summer to early fall.
