After splitting games in the regular season, the Carroll Academy Rebels got the last laugh on Oak Hill last week.
The Rebels took a 58-55 win over Oak Hill to claim the District 2-AAA championship on their home court on Saturday. The Rebels advanced to the final with a 57-41 win over rival Winona Christian.
The Lady Rebels weren’t as fortunate as they lost 51-32 to Central Holmes in the tournament finals. The Lady Rebels advanced to the finals after beating Oak Hill 47-30 in the semifinals.
The Lady Rebels advance to the Class-AAA North State tournament, which will be held at Central Holmes this week. Carroll will take on Kirk Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will take on the winner of North Delta and Oak Hill on Friday at 4 p.m. The championship game is set for Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
The Rebels advance as the No. 1 seed out of district 2 and will take on North Delta on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. The winner will face the winner of Lee Academy and Winona Christian on Friday at 7:45 p.m. The championship game is set for Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
Carroll boys 57, WCS 41
The Rebels broke open a close game in the second half as they took a 16-point win over the Stars on Thursday.
Carroll led 11-9 at the end of the first and the game was 25-25 at the half. The Rebels got going in the third period, outscoring the Stars 17-6 to take a 42-31 lead into the fourth. Carroll finished off by outscoring Winona 15-10 to take the win.
Austin Smith led Carroll with 15 points and five rebounds while Reese Fulton had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Logan Taylor also had 12 points.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with 15 points while Jake Ware had 12 points. Reed Roberts also chipped in six points.
Carroll boys 58, Oak Hill 55
The Rebels put four players in double digits and held on to take a three-point win over the top-seeded Raiders on Saturday.
Each team scored five points in the first period and Carroll led 21-17 at the half. Carroll then outscored Oak Hill 17-12 in the third to lead 38-29 going to the fourth. Oak Hill outscored Carroll 26-20 for the final margin.
Logan Taylor had a big game with 20 points and six steals while Reese Fulton had another double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Smith had 11 points and Noah Beck also had 10 points.
Carroll girls 47, Oak Hill 30
The Lady Rebels built a big lead and cruised to a 17-point win over the Lady Raiders in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.
Carroll led Oak Hill 12-5 at the end of the first and outscored the Lady Raiders 14-4 in the second to lead 26-9 at the half. Carroll expanded the lead in the third, outscoring Oak Hill 11-3 to take a 37-12 lead into the fourth.
Gracie Turner led Carroll with 20 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Lainey Claire Dunn had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals while Dru Chamblee had 10 points and two steals. Mary Jordan Milton also had five rebounds for the Lady Rebels.
Central Holmes girls 51, Carroll 32
The Lady Trojans repeated as district champions and beat the Lady Rebels for the third time this season with a 19-point win on Saturday in the championship game.
Carroll played tough early as the led 11-10 at the end of the first period before Central Holmes outscored the Lady Rebels 19-9 in the second to lead 29-20 at the half. Central Holmes continued to expand its lead in the second half as they outscored Carroll 10-7 in the third and 12-5 in the fourth.
Dru Chamblee led Carroll with 10 points and three steals. Gracie Turner had eight points and nine rebounds while Lainey Claire Dunn had seven points.
