The J.Z. George Jaguars dropped two Region 3-3A games in prep basketball action last week.
The Jaguars lost 61-49 to Charleston, 57-30 to East Webster in a makeup game, and 83-55 to Humphreys County.
The Jaguars close out their regular season schedule this week. They travel to Amanda Elzy on Tuesday and host Ruleville Central on Saturday. Next week, they enter the district tournament in Greenwood.
“We are making progress and playing some of these teams a little closer the second time around,” Jaguars Coach Jonathan Childs said. “If we could eliminate some of the mistakes we keep making, we could be competitive. The effort is there.”
Charleston used a big third quarter to power past J.Z. George.
The Tigers led 14-12 after the first quarter. J.Z. George battled back, outscoring Charleston 12-9. At the half, J.Z. George led 24-23.
Charleston would come back in the second to outpoint J.Z. George 38-28 in the final two quarters.
Ceasa Glenn led the Jaguars with 17 points while Devonte Smith put in 13.
East Webster took the early lead and held the Jaguars at bay in the second half to take the 57-30 win.
East Webster led 18-8 after the first quarter. They outpointed the Jaguars 16-14 in the second quarter and led 34-22 at the half.
East Webster held J.Z. George to eight points in the second half while scoring 23.
Glenn scored nine points.
Humphreys County scored big in the second quarter as they pulled away from the Jaguars.
The game was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter. Humphreys County outpointed J.Z. George 27-9 in the second quarter and led 39-21 at the half. Humphreys outpointed J.Z. George 44-34 in the second half to take the win.
Glenn led with 15 while Malik Branch put in 13.
