J.Z. George suffered a couple of tough losses last week, 5-4 to West Bolivar and 18-12 to Humphreys County, a game the Jaguars led 10-1.
“I thought we played really, really well against West Bolivar,” said coach Wylie Rhodes. “We did exactly what we have been trying to do. We came incredibly close to winning that game. But we just sort of fell apart against Humphreys County.”
Against West Bolivar, J.Z. George scored three runs in the sixth to pull within a run at 5-4. The Jaguars had runners on first and third in the seventh, but the game ended with a pick off.
Josh Johnson had a single and double, with two RBIs for the Jaguars.
A 10-run second inning gave J.Z. George an early 10-1 lead against Humphreys County. Johnson had a two-run double during the rally. But the Cowboys took advantage of walks and hit batters for an even bigger inning, scoring 12 times in the fourth to go ahead 16-12.
“We didn't throw strikes,” Rhodes said.
Jacob Johnson and Michael Shute had three RBIs each for the Jaguars. James Pridgen had two hits and Josh Johnson scored three times.
J.Z. George will play at Charleston Friday.
