The Carroll Academy Lady Rebels got a monumental win on Thursday as they beat rival Kirk Academy — the defending MAIS Overall champions.
The Lady Rebels took a 42-34 win in the contest. They also lost to Winston 39-27 and beat Indianola 40-28. The Carroll Academy boys lost both of their contests, falling 57-36 to Kirk and 48-41 to Winston.
Carroll returned to action with three games this week as they travelled to Tri-County on Monday and hosted Canton on Tuesday and Winston on Wednesday.
Carroll girls 42, Kirk 34
The Lady Rebels picked up a big win over the defending Overall champions as they beat rival Kirk by eight on Thursday.
Carroll jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first period and outscored the Lady Raiders 15-10 in the second to lead 30-17 at the half.
Sandy Rhea Tackett led the Lady Rebels as she scored 16 points, had five rebounds and five steals. Gracie Turner had 11 points and eight rebounds while Belle Sanders had six points and five steals.
Kirk boys 57, Carroll 36
The Raiders jumped ahead early and never looked back as they took a 21-point win over the Rebels.
Kirk led 12-4 at the end of the first and 22-11 at the half. Carroll outscored Kirk 12-10 in the fourth but the Raiders pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Rebels 25-13 to take the win.
Logan Taylor led Carroll with 18 points while Reese Fulton had six points.
Winston girls 39,
Carroll 27
The Lady Rebels fell behind early as Winston handed them their first loss of the season on Tuesday.
Winston led 9-5 at the end of the first and 22-11 at the half. The Lady Patriots outscored Carroll 9-4 in the third to take a 31-15 lead into the fourth.
Belle Sanders led Carroll with eight points and four steals. Sandy Rhea Tackett and Chloe Richardson each had six points and four rebounds apiece.
Winston boys 48,
Carroll 41
The Patriots jumped out to a big first-period lead and held on to take a seven point win over the Rebels.
Winston led 21-8 at the end of the first period and 30-18 at the half. Carroll made a run in the third as they outscored Winston 13-3 and trailed 33-31 at the end of the third before falling short.
Reese Fulton had a big night with 18 points. And 19 rebounds while Logan Taylor had 12 points.
Carroll girls 40,
Indianola 28
The Lady Rebels used a big second period as they ran past Indianola on Monday.
Indianola led 11-10 after the first period before Carroll took control. The Lady Rebels then outscored the Lady Colonels 17-5 to lead 27-16 at the half. The Lady Rebels held that margin for the majority of the half as they held on to take the win.
Gracie Turner led Carroll in scoring with 14 points while Sandy Rhea Tackett had 11 points and Belle Sanders chipped in nine. Turner led the team with six rebounds while Lainey Claire Dunn had five rebounds. Tackett and Sanders each had three steals apiece.
