The J.Z. George Jaguars concluded their 2017-2018 basketball season last Tuesday as both the boys and girls teams were eliminated by Yazoo County in the Region 3-3A tournament.
The Jaguars went down 58-25 to the Panthers, while the J.Z. George girls went down 56-13. The tournament was played in Greenwood.
“We were playing a lot of young guys this year,” Coach Jonathan Childs said as his team finished with a 6-23 record. “We are trying to build up our program but we are in a very tough region. We play a tough schedule and we think the experience we have gotten this year will pay next year.”
The Yazoo County boys went up 18-3 in the first quarter. They outscored the Jaguars12-10 in the second quarter and led 30-13 at the half. The Panthers outscored the Jaguars 28-12 in the second half.
Malik Branch led the Jaguars with 12 points while Ceasa Glenn added six points.
