If you do not watch “The Walking Dead,” you cannot come.
June Williams said her sister, Jennifer Mooneyham, didn’t get invited last year because she didn’t watch “The Walking Dead,” so Mooneyham binge watched so she could come this year.
On the other hand, Williams’ brother-in-law, Brad, said “It takes some sick individuals to come to that.” But, we are talking about crazy fans of “The Walking Dead!”
So for the fall and mid-season premieres, the group of Winona-area super-fans get together to eat and watch the shows. And TWD-themed menu is so much fun, and packed with lots of ideas for a spooky-inspired dinner, just in time for Halloween.
The centerpiece was the “Dead Zombie” complete with ribs, large smoked sausages and the smaller cocktail sausages. Williams cut the knife and glued it to the skull to look like it was slicing through. The blood is made from dark corn syrup and red food coloring which “is the absolute best way to make it because it gives it that slow dripping sticky quality,” as said by a girl who knows.
The lettering (TWD) is featured on top of a cheeseball which is covered in strawberry preserves. “It is so easy to make and yummy,” Williams said.
Cheeseball
2 bags shredded cheddar cheese
1 jar of real bacon bits
1 bundle of green onions, chopped
Mayonnaise
Strawberry preserves
Mix all dry ingredients together. Fold in mayonnaise until the dip gets firm enough to shape. Top with strawberry preserves.
Williams said the cool part is that you can shape the cheeseball into whatever design you want.
Dead Man’s Punch
Hawaiian Punch
Pineapple juice
Ginger ale
Raspberry sherbet
Eyeballs and an ice hand, for garnish
Mix all ingredients.
For garnish, to make an ice hand to keep the Dead Man’s Punch cold, add food color of choice to water until you reach the desired color.
Fill a plastic medical glove with water, fastening end with a twist tie or rubber band. Hang glove from a shelf in the freezer and freeze overnight. When frozen, pull the glove off the ice hand and place it in the punch.
Brain cupcakes were decorated with cream cheese icing and candy blood spray from Walmart. The decorative knives and hatchets were also purchased at Walmart. Williams said her brain cupcakes were “Black Magic,” but red velvet cupcakes would also work well with the theme.
The Intestines were made by her friend, Amy, using canned Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. She browned ground sausage, drained it and mixed in a softened square of cream cheese. She stuffed the sausage mixture into uncooked crescent dough and wrapped it to form intestines and cooked until brown. She then added edible red food coloring. Williams said they were delicious!
