The J.Z. George girls fast-pitch softball team had a fairly successful week as it went 2-1 in its three games played.
The Lady Jaguars (4-4 overall) started the week with a 25-4 drubbing of Greenwood High School on March 18. They scored four runs in the first, two in the second and 19 in the third. GHS scored three in the first and one in the third.
Laney Clunan got the win in the circle as she yielded all four runs on four hits, hitting five batters, walking two and fanning nine.
Olivia Carpenter led an eight-hit attack for J.Z. George with a solo home run and a triple. She also got on base three other times with two walks and a hit by pitch, and scored five runs.
Paige Shack chipped in with a single, double and three runs scored, while Jasmine Newman had two singles, two RBIs and scored three runs. Makayla Vest, Lauren Nester and Tyeshia Grant had a single each. Vest and Clunan scored three times apiece, while Grant, Nester, Tashanda Fleming and Skylar Matlock scored two runs each.
The Lady Jags returned on March 21 with a home district game against Charleston High School. J.Z. George prevailed 19-4 as Clunan got the win, allowing four runs on five hits, hitting two batters, walking one and striking out six.
The Lady Jags scored 11 runs in the first and eight in the second inning. Charleston plated two runs each in the first and third innings.
Newman and Vest had two singles apiece with Newman scoring three runs and Vest two. Fleming had a double and scored one run, and Taiquandria Gladness had a single and scored a run.
Carpenter, Grant and Clunan scored three runs each, and Nester scored a pair of runs.
In a game played March 22 at home against French Camp, the Lady Jags fell 22-0. They were held hitless. Clunan took the loss as she allowed all 22 runs on 20 hits, walking five, hitting three batters and striking out one. The defense committed seven errors.
J.Z. George, which played host to Choctaw County Tuesday in a doubleheader, entertains Amanda Elzy Thursday in a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Jaguars visit Winona High School Friday at 5 p.m., go to Riverside Saturday at 2 p.m., and visit Ruleville April 1 at 4:30 p.m.
