The J.Z. George basketball teams ran into a tough Region 3-3A foe last week in Humphreys County.
The HCHS teams defeated the J.Z. George boys 88-35 and the Lady Jaguars 92-28.
Humphreys County led the Jaguars 36-10 at the half. They outscored J.Z. George 51-25 in the second half. Malik Branch led J.Z. George with 11 points.
“We had a tough night with Humphreys County,” JZG head coach Jonathan Childs said. “They are one of the better teams in our region. But we made too many mistakes.”
The Jaguars dropped to 5-8 on the season.
J.Z. George will not be playing this week as it enters the Christmas break. The Jags and Lady Jags are entered into the East Webster tournament. Both coaches said they will hold practices during the holidays.
We need to work on fundamentals and the little things,” Coach Childs said. “We are hurting ourselves with little mistakes. If we can correct this, we are going to be a lot harder to beat.”
Lady Jaguars
Tashanda Fleming scored 13 points to lead the Lady Jaguars in their game with Humphreys County. Keorra Phillips, who just joined the team, scored nine points in her first game.
