I had the opportunity to participate recently in the Mississippi Municipal League’s press conference on the second floor rotunda of the state Capitol in Jackson.
There were many officials from across the state that were in attendance for the MML Legislative Agenda presentation. Infrastructure was a big part of the discussion including streets, water, and sewer. There was also the importance of a greater share of the sales tax from the state to municipalities.
The House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 722, which will help fund city and county road and bridge maintenance. This is something that the MML members were pushing for at the conference. The bill has now been passed to the Mississippi Senate. The MML’s mission is to help cities and towns excel, and it represents 292 governments statewide.
