WCS closes school the week of March 23-27
Winona Christian School announced that classes will be canceled for the week of March 23 through 27, due to continue to limit possible exposure of the coronavirus/COVID-19.
According to Headmaster Jimmy Pittman, lesson plans for grades 4-12 are available on RenWeb, and packets will be available at the school each Monday for K4-12 students to pick up until classes resume.
Below is a letter to parents from Headmaster Jimmy Pittman:
Dear WCS Family,
We are navigating new territory with the closure of school due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation. We are in contact with MAIS, the Mississippi Health Department and the Mississippi Department of Education to stay apprised of the recommendations regarding school closures. As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions regarding school attendance on a week-to-week basis. The MAIS recommended the schools close this week, March 16-20. Another decision will be made Friday, March 20, concerning the upcoming week. [That decision was announced Thursday morning via school text to close for the week of March 23 through 27.]
This is an ever-changing situation. We want to keep everyone in our WCS family safe and healthy. We understand that our WCS family includes not just our students and staff, but also the family members at home that could be at risk. Please be patient with us as we make these decisions.
Although we hope to be back in school soon, our teachers and staff will prepare as if school will be dismissed for an extended time. Detailed lesson plans for the week of March 23-27 will be available on RenWeb beginning Monday, March 23. Lesson plans and assignments will be in place in case we’re not back in school.
Although the lesson plans are available on RenWeb, K4-12th grade students will have class packets/folders to be picked up each Monday until school resumes. (K4-3rd will not have plans on RenWeb, only folders.) These stations will be set up in the elementary hallway in the gym. Pick up and drop off will begin, Monday, March 23, from 7 a.m-11 a.m. and continue on Mondays from 7a.m-11a.m. for as long as the school is closed. You will drop off work for the previous week each time you pick up. ALL teachers will be accessible to you through email or telephone. If for some reason a student doesn’t understand a skill or needs one-on-one instruction, do not hesitate to contact the teacher for assistance. When packets are picked up Monday, the 23rd, please make sure your student gets any textbooks, notebooks, etc., they need to keep at home during this online learning period. As you are aware, several textbooks are available online, so your child may not need the actual book.
At this time, all athletic and school events are suspended. This includes ALL team practices. The school campus will be closed. All facilities are off-limits.
We are currently registering for the 2020-2021 school year. This will continue through April 30. You may come to the office to pre-register on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00-11:00.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work through this challenging time. It is our hope that we can provide some semblance of normalcy and continued learning during this unprecedented situation.
