LaKeadra Coffey has joined the Winona Times and The Conservative staff as a full-time reporter.
Coffey, 29, of Weir comes from another Emmerich Newspapers-owned publication, The Enterprise-Journal in McComb, where she spent two years covering crime/breaking news, City of Magnolia, several school districts, Southwest Mississippi Community College and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce. Coffey also wrote numerous feature stories, some which were picked up by national publications including an interview with rapper Snoop Dogg and a story of two Pike County deputies who fell in love and got married while on the force.
Coffey graduated from Weir High School in 2007 and earned her bachelor’s in Mass Communications from the University of North Alabama in 2014.
“I love getting to know those in the community and spotlighting the accomplishments and great things that are ongoing,” Coffey said. “I am looking forward to getting to know the residents of Montgomery and Carroll counties.”
Amanda Sexton Ferguson, editor and publisher of The Winona Times and The Conservative, said she is thrilled to have Coffey join the newspaper team.
“LaKeadra is a talented storyteller, and in her first few days as a part of our team, she has hit the ground running,” Ferguson said. “We are lucky to have someone with her experience, enthusiasm, and passion for reporting local news.
She resides in Weir with her one month old son, Elijah.
“If anyone has any story ideas, please feel free to share them with me,” Coffey said.
