During the Patriots' Luncheon at the113th State Conference of the Mississippi State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Carroll Academy Student Council Association, sponsored as the Douglas Carroll Junior American Citizens by Third Arrow Chapter MSSDAR, was recognized and presented with the State First Place Award for Outstanding Community Service.
Taking this year's theme "The 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing - America's Great Move Forward in Exploration and Technology" to heart, the CA Student Council raised $1000 to help move technology forward at their school and purchased microscopes for the school's new elementary science lab. In addition, they donated a DVD of "The Eagle has Landed" and NASA wall posters of the Lunar Landing and presented each of the elementary science teachers with lesson plans about Apollo 13.
Additionally the student council held bake sales and raised $500 for the high school's Robotics Team to help purchase a 3D printer to advance their technology in constructing small parts to be used on their robot for competition.
Throughout the year this JAC Club enthusiastically served the Carroll County community focusing their efforts on celebrating all that is good about America, especially for their Veterans.
Each State's first place winner is then submitted to the Division Level of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution for judging. Mississippi is in the Southeastern Division which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. At the end of February the CA Student Council was notified that they had received First Place for Outstanding Community Service in the Southeastern Division of the U.S. Congratulations to all of the members of the Carroll Academy Student Council for their great work in giving back to their school, their community, their state and to their nation.
