Rick Weaver (far right) of the Mississippi Army National Guard at Camp McCain, presented Winona Chief of Police Tommy Bibbs, Winona Mayor Jerry Flowers, Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix, and Montgomery County Economic Development Partnership Director Sue Stidham with certificates of appreciation for their assistance with the Southern Strike Exercise held January 15-30, 2019. The exercise was directed by the Combat Readiness Training Center in Gulfport, and it involved over 1,800 service members from 51 different units, 20 States, and four international military partners who were involved in 19 missions. Military personnel from Camp McCain, Camp Shelby, and Gulfport participated in the two-week event that was partially held at the Winona Ethanol Plant. For more on this story, see page 19.
