The man responsible for shooting at a vehicle two vehicles near the Duck Hill exit off Interstate 55 last Wednesday has not yet been apprehended, Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker said.
According to Walker, the authorities are looking for a while male with a beard who is driving a dark gray, extended-cab Toyota Tundra, possibly a 2010-2013 model) with dark-tinted windows and a black tool box. Walker said the man was last seen traveling west on Highway 82, and he is considered armed and dangerous.
Walker said on Wednesday, February 7 at around 3:20 p.m. the shooter’s vehicle was seen exiting on the Duck Hill exit and traveling west on Carroll County Road 96 (Highway 404 in Montgomery County). Walker said he pulled over on the side of road near the overpass of Interstate 55.
A short time later, two Grenada men, riding in a Ford F150 pickup truck, were driving west on County Road 96 when an interesting mailbox sparked their attention. Walker said they turned around and headed back east on CR 96 to take a photograph of the mailbox.
Walker said when the two men stopped, the suspect exited his car and began firing from a high-powered, automatic assault rifle. Walker said he fired approximately 15 rounds toward the Grenada men’s truck, striking it four or five times with one round striking the headrest behind the passenger seat.
“No one was injured,” said Walker.
Walker said after shooting at the truck, the man got back into his truck and enters Interstate 55 southbound. The driver of a fellow motorist reported that the truck “came up behind her, driving erratically,” Walker said.
The driver reported that the suspect began shooting out his window at the underside of an overpass. No passing vehicles were struck by bullets, Walker said.
“We were told that he got on [Highway] 82 and went west,” Walker said. “No tag number was given.”
