Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Town of Carrollton held their monthly evening meeting. All Board members were present for the meeting with the exception of Alderman Clint Gee. The highlights of the evening’s meeting are as follows.
To begin business, the Board heard a concern from two Eggleston street residents regarding trees on the Town’s right-of-way. Resident Linda McGregor spearheaded the conversation, expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of the trees. McGregor provided each Board member with a packet of pictures of the trees in question as a visual aid. She explained that there have been various instances recently of limbs falling from the trees into the road or on residential property, so far without causing any harm to the residents or their property. However, she explained that there is seemingly a significant risk of damages occurring in the near future if preventative measures are not taken.
“I’m basically asking that the two trees - they be cut - carried off and cleaned up,” McGregor requested of the Board.
“My thing is, the further it goes, the more dangerous it’s gonna get,” McGregor expressed her concern.
After some brief discussion regarding the right of way and specifics of cutting down the dead trees, the Board agreed to have the trees mentioned removed from Eggleston street. The Board received a quote from Double H Services for the cutting of the trees and removal of debris in the amount of $6,000. The Board approved this quote for cutting and removal of trees on Eggleston street on a motion made by Alderman Tommy Goodman and seconded by Alderwoman Daphne Williams with all in favor.
As the next major matter of business, much later in the meeting, the Board discussed two quotes for the construction of security walls inside of the Carrollton Town Hall building. The work would consist of building two three-foot tall walls inside the building. One would be positioned in front of the clerk’s desk at the entrance of the building and one would be positioned in front of the mayor’s desk. Both walls are to have writing ledges atop them in addition to having swinging door entrances and are to be anchored to the floor of the building. After discussing the two quotes provided and clarifying the specifications for the project, the Board ultimately opted to go with the lower quote for the work. The low quote in the amount of $2,044.76 for materials and labor was accepted on a motion by Alderman Goodman and seconded by Alderman Bo Milton with all in favor. It was noted that the adjustment number for this quote, removing taxes due to the Town’s tax exemption status, would be $1,911. The adjusted quote is what the Town anticipates paying for the work.
In other news the Board:
• Accepted the town budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year.
• Agreed to pay the town claims.
• Approved a quote from CNC Electric for the lighting of the water tower.
