Carroll Academy exploded for 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 17-9 win over visiting Hebron Christian School in girls fastpitch softball action last Thursday night in Carrollton.
Carroll (3-6 overall) tacked on one run in the second and two runs each in the third, fifth and sixth frames. Hebron scored four runs each in the first and fourth innings and one in the fifth.
Nevaeh McCrory drove in three runs with two singles. She also scored two runs. Makenzie Reeves had a single and double with one RBI and scored two runs, and Natalee Mitchell scored three runs, had two singles and one RBI.
Layla Neese had two RBIs as she had a single and scored twice, and Gracie Murphy had a single, two RBIs and scored a run. Kaylyn Wiltshire had a single, and Audrey Woods scored two runs and drove in a run. Sophie Melton scored two runs, and Maggie Carter, Emma Matthews and Ainslee O’Bryan scored a run each.
Wiltshire (2-4) got the win in the circle as she went all seven innings, allowing the nine runs (four earned) on 13 hits, walking five and fanning six.
The Lady Rebels dropped an 8-0 decision at Calhoun Academy Monday. Calhoun plated five runs in the third inning and three in the sixth.
Neese (1-2) took the loss as she went all six innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits, walking five and striking out one.
Natalee Mitchell had a single for Carroll’s lone hit.
Carroll began District 2-2A play Monday at Deer Creek School. The two teams played a doubleheader in Carrollton Tuesday. The Lady Rebels visit Starkville Academy Thursday.
