You can spend a lot of money
trying to save money.
Are you always looking for a bargain? A sale? A way to get the most for your money?
I guess we all do!
Nobody wants to throw money away. At least, no one I know.
Mama taught me to be frugal to a point, I guess. Sometimes we went shopping at one of the big stores near us and looked for things we needed, and some things we just wanted, and I got to put stuff in the buggy, too.
Then all of a sudden.
Mama hit her limit.
She said, “I’m putting up my purse!”
That meant the buggy was done, finished, and full. She had spent her limit. She reached her budget amount. And to me, as a child, it was almost magical; how she reached that point and knew instinctively that was it. It was enough.
I learned from her to keep about a week or two worth of groceries in the pantry and freezer, “Just in case.” She never explained exactly what “just in case meant,” but believe me, when I got out on my own, I learned exactly what it meant.
I like to find bargains and often find myself looking for a “better” something. A better and improved laundry detergent that won’t make my clothes itchy! A better cleaner that isn’t full of dangerous chemicals, but still kills germs and leaves the house smelling wonderful!
If we believe the ads, there is always a “better” one out there. Skin care products are famous for wild claims to make us look younger, prettier, healthier, and all around better! It’s new! It’s improved! It’s the best!
If we believe the claims of medicines, vitamins, oils, and “new discoveries,” we can solve our health problems for just “$59.00” this month only. We can have energy, better eyesight, improved memory, and save money doing It all.
A grain of salt. That’s what we should take all these claims with.
But there is something that and doesn’t need to be improved. That’s God’s Word, God’s salvation plan through the sacrifice His Son Jesus Christ made on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and the eternal life He offers us through His grace and our faith.
Stop looking for salvation and meaning in life through money, drugs, alcohol, people, love, work, security, or whatever! Don’t keep “shopping around” for wys to get rid of guilt, shame, and sin.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
You can’t improve on that!!!
