New details have emerged about a fatal shooting that occurred on Allen Street in Winona on Monday, Aug. 26. Lt. BJ Edwards of the Winona Police Department reported that officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:50 p.m. The caller stated she had shot a man following an assault by him. The victim was later identified as Jeremy Dewayne Evans by Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt.
Upon arrival, officers found Evans suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving measures. MedStat Emergency Medical Services transported Evans to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital's emergency room, where Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt pronounced him deceased.
The female involved was detained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with investigators. As of now, no charges have been filed. A 9mm firearm, believed to be the weapon used, was recovered at the scene.
Lt. Edwards noted that while officers had previously responded to multiple disturbance calls at this address, neither party had ever filed formal charges.
