Winona Tennis sweeps two region matches, improves to 3-0 in district

The Winona High tennis team picked up two Region 2-3A wins on the courts last week.

The Tigers defeated Amanda Elzy 6-1 Thursday in Greenwood. In girls singles, Joceline Rodriguez claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win, and in boys singles, Leo Guzman earned a 6-2, 6-1 win.

J.Z. George opens region play with doubleheader sweep of Charleston

The Jaguars of J.Z. George got off to a rousing start in Region 3-2A play with a doubleheader sweep of Charleston High School last Thursday in North Carrollton at the Carroll County Recreation Park.

J.Z. George won the first game 12-11, holding off a seventh-inning rally by the Tigers to get the win.

Carroll tops Winona, then drops to Indianola

Carroll Academy played host to Winona High School last Thursday and claimed a 19-9 win over the Tigers.

Carroll (8-7) scored eight runs in the first inning, two runs each in the second and fourth, four in the third and three in the fifth. Winona plated four runs in the third and five in the fourth.
