City discusses new state law for home utilities

As of July 1, all electrical, plumbing and HVAC work on residential buildings will have to be done by state-licensed contractors.
Gov. Tate Reeves signed a bill into law on April 22, stating that such work must be completed by state-licensed contractors, according to Winona Fire Chief Brad Mooneyham.

Plans are underway for Fannie Lou Hamer Day

Preparations are underway for the June 9 unveiling of the Fannie Lou Hamer historical marker in Winona.
During their April 29 meeting, Montgomery County Supervisors agreed to provide iron benches near the marker site, and Edwin Taylor will supply portable restrooms at the request of event organizer Vickie Roberts-Ratliff.

Autopsy report reveals how Vaiden man died

Authorities have determined the February death of a Vaiden man was due to a gunshot wound to his chest.
On Feb. 15, Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies found Maurice Robinson, 30, lying in his yard and “unresponsive” near his County Road 226 home, according to a statement released by Sheriff Clint Walker in February.

Winona Police Department moves into new home

Winona police are settling into their new station on Quitman Avenue.
Police Chief Roshaun Daniels said the new location better suits the needs of the department than the previous location at 608 Summit Street.
