Authorities have determined the February death of a Vaiden man was due to a gunshot wound to his chest.
On Feb. 15, Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies found Maurice Robinson, 30, lying in his yard and “unresponsive” near his County Road 226 home, according to a statement released by Sheriff Clint Walker in February.
They arrived at the home after responding to two emergency calls: “disturbance” and “shots fired.”
Soon after the shooting, local authorities sent Robinson’s body to the Mississippi Crime Lab, where they discovered he had died from the gunshot wound.
During the investigation, deputies discovered Robinson had been shot during a dispute over a power bill with his aunt Jeriber Pointer, according to Walker.
“Both family members lived on the property in two different structures,” the release stated.
Homicide charges have not been filed against Robinson’s aunt in his killing as the shooting was ruled self-defense, Walker stated.
