The Winona netters picked up a pair of wins last week over Senatobia and Leake Central.
Last Thursday at Senatobia, Winona prevailed 4-3 as it got the deciding win in mixed doubles. The duo of Jemarius Sanders and Molly Tompkins defeated Tyler Webb and Chelsey Wooten 6-0, 6-1.
In boys’ singles, Kirven McCrory won his match 6-4, 6-2 over Bryson Thomas. In No. 1 boys doubles, Jordan Leech and Gunner Wilkes claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ian Williams and Ta’kylan Young. In No. 2 boys doubles, Eric Boone and Javien Jackson earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Myles Faulkner and Julius Bobo.
In girls’ singles, Winona’s Lilian Jones lost her match, 3-6, 3-6, to Samariah Wilson. Both girls doubles teams lost. Emma Marshall and Janey Beth McRae lost in No. 1 doubles 3-6, 1-6 to Avery McNail and Lillian Hale. In No. 2 girls’ doubles, Lana Branch and Marlee Wilkes lost 4-6, 1-6 to Lillian Lesure and Ahdia Kimble.
In its match against Leake Central last Tuesday, Winona won 4-3 as it got wins in girls singles, both boys doubles matches and mixed doubles.
Tompkins won her match 6-2, 6-3 in girls singles, while the No. 1 boys doubles team of McCrory and Wilkes won their match 6-3, 6-3. In No. 2 boys’ doubles, Boone and Jackson came out on top, 6-4, 6-0. In mixed doubles, McRae and Sanders won 6-1, 6-0.
In boys’ singles, Leech lost his match, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. In No. 1 girls’ doubles, Branch and Marshall lost 5-7, 1-6, and in No. 2 girls doubles, Jones and Wilkes lost 5-7, 2-6.
Winona’s tennis team, which played at Cleveland Tuesday, hosts Bruce Thursday.
