Walt Disney once said, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates' loot on Treasure Island.." Books were rare and expensive in Colonial America, but Benjamin Franklin had an idea! He conceived of a library with a subscription fee, the Library Company of Philadelphia, of which he founded in 1731.
