By 1844, Titus Howard’s town of Greenwood had beaten out the nearby competing riverports of Point Leflore, Douglass, and Marion (Sidon). During the mid-1800’s, Greenwood grew into an important economic center which attracted more businesses and people who were eager to participate in Greenwood’s new-found prosperity.
