GREENWOOD MAN ACCUSED OF STATUTORY RAPE

A Greenwood man is out on bond for a statutory rape charge.
Carroll County deputies arrested Marqabious Markees Hughes, 19, at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 4 at a residence near McCarley, according to a statement released by Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker.
Hughes is charged with statutory rape of a 14 year old, Walker said.

BOARD RE-ELECTS WOOD, TOWNSEND

Montgomery County Supervisors voted during their first meeting of the year to keep their board president and vice president along with county employees.
Supervisor Ron Wood, who has served as board president for about 17 years, will maintain his position again throughout 2023, following a unanimous vote.

The citizens of North Carrollton welcome their first African American clerk to office.
Lendera Williams, 50, assumed her new position on Jan. 1, however, she has been serving North Carrollton as deputy clerk since the Board of Aldermen authorized her employment during their regular monthly meeting in November.

KILMICHAEL MAN FACES FEDERAL ID THEFT CHARGES

A Kilmichael man is in the custody of United States Marshals following a routine traffic stop in Winona.
Winona police arrested Marcus D. Brown, 37, at about 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 20 and charged him with no tag, suspended driver’s license and no proof of liability insurance, according to Police Chief Roshaun Daniels.
