Board takes steps to Highway 82 traffic light

Montgomery County Supervisors discussed during a regular board meeting on Monday, installing a traffic light at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 82 and Mission Road in Winona.
The need for the traffic light comes with the expected increase of traffic flow when the new truck stop is completed at that intersection.

Pyron Gets new home

War veteran Robert Pyron accepted the keys to his new home on Wednesday.
Purple Heart Homes, Incorporated delivered a tiny home from Statesville, N.C. to Pyron on Tuesday, and work continued to fill his new home with food and other necessities, according to Scott Burns, founder of 7 Days for the Troops.

Events set for second annual Fannie Lou Hamer Day

Plans are underway for the second annual Fannie Lou Hamer Day observance.
People from across the United States were in Winona last year for a four-day event, which began on June 9, commemorating the day Hamer and other civil rights activists were arrested at a bus station food counter and beaten in the Winona Jail decades earlier.
