The Winona tennis team lost one match to the weather, one to a scheduling mix up and one to an opponent last week.
A match with Eupora was rained out and a match with Kosciusko was not played because Kosciusko inadvertently scheduled another match for the same date. In the match that was played, Winona lost to Grenada 7-0.
Coach Lance VanHorn hopes to reschedule Eupora and Kosciusko.
Winona is a young team, but one with some experience. The top six girls include three sophomores – Lauren Hood, Emma Rickles and Radleigh Woods – and three freshmen – Molly Tompkins, Murry Catherine Alderman and Jane Beth McRae. Tompkins is the daughter of Winona football coach Joey Tompkins and McRae the daughter of Chris McRae, the track coach.
The boys team includes two seniors, Carson Holly and Donovan Weathers, Sam Matriascano, a junior, Kervin McCrory, a sophomore, Khristian Williams, a freshman, and Conner Privitt, an eighth grader.
Who will play where is still up in the air. “We need some more experience,” VanHorn said. “They are all improving. But just like any sport, you need to play matches.”
Winona has a home match scheduled for Thursday with Greenville.
