Basketball season finally got in full swing this week for Winona Christian as both teams picked up a pair of wins.
The Lady Stars beat Hebron 46-41 and Benton 47-32 before falling to Magnolia Heights 48-36. The Stars took a 72-68 win over Hebron and then beat Benton 57-41. The Stars also fell on Friday to Magnolia Heights, facing 58-31.
Winona Christian will be off for the Thanksgiving break and will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 as it hosts Starkville. On Thursday, WCS will travel to North Sunflower before hosting Winston Academy on Friday, Dec. 6.
Winona Christian boys 72, Hebron 68
The Stars put four players in double digits and came from behind in the fourth to take a four-point win over the Eagles.
Hebron led 18-12 at the end of the first before Winona outscored the Eagles 23-12 in the second to lead 35-30 at the half. Hebron took the lead back in the third period as they outscored Winona 22-18 to take a 52-48 lead into the fourth. WCS then outscored Hebron 24-16 in the fourth to take the four-point win.
Choyce Diffey led a balanced scoring attack with 22 points while Latham Hill added 18 points. Reed Roberts had 16 points while John White had 12 and Jacob Mann had seven points.
Winona Christian girls 46, Hebron 41
The Lady Stars pulled away in the fourth period to take a five-point win over the Lady Eagles.
Winona Christian led 11-9 at the end of the first and 20-18 at the half. Hebron cut the lead to 31-30 at the end of the third before the Lady Stars pulled away in the fourth by outscore the Lady Eagles 15-9.
Bella Roberts led WCS with 16 points while Autumn Lishman had 11 points. Audrey Eldridge had eight points while Olivia Brooks had five points.
Winona Christian boys 57, Benton 41
The Stars had a big second half as they took a 16-point win over the Raiders.
Benton led 14-13 at the end of the first and 25-21 at the half. Winona battled back in the second half as they outscored Benton 17-8 in the third and 19-8 in the fourth to take the win.
Reed Roberts led the Stars with 20 points while Choyce Diffey had 18 points and Latham Hill added 15 points.
Winona Christian girls 47, Benton 32
The Lady Stars got big book-end periods and took a 15-point win over the Lady Raiders.
Winona led 12-5 at the end of the first and 20-12 at the half. Benton cut the lead to 32-26 at the end of the third but the Lady Stars outscored the Lady Raiders 15-6 to take the win.
Bella Roberts led Winona Christian with 18 points while Audrey Eldridge had 17 points. Sara Burden White also had six points.
Magnolia Heights boys 58, Winona Christian 31
Magnolia Heights pulled away in the second quarter and took a 27-point win.
The Chiefs led 14-11 at the end of the first before outscoring Winona 13-4 in the second to lead 27-15 at the half. Magnolia Heights pulled away in the third, outscoring Winona 20-4 to lead 47-19 going into the fourth.
Choyce Diffey led Winona with eight points while Latham Hill added six points and Dalton Wiggins added five.
