Like most of North Mississippi, the Carroll Academy Rebels have been fighting the rain, getting in only one of three scheduled games.
In that game, the Rebels lost a 10-4 decision to Pillow Academy.
The Rebels were scheduled to return to action on Monday against Calhoun and Tuesday at Humphreys. Then on Friday, the Rebels will host Clarksdale Lee.
Pillow Academy used a six-run sixth inning to break open a close game and take a six-run win last week.
Carroll scored one in the first on a solo home run by Jacob Cutts to take a 1-0 lead. Carroll scored one in the third to tie the game at 2-2 when Colby Holly singled and moved to third on groundout and scored on a single by Andrew Montgomery. Pillow responded with two runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. After a scoreless fifth, the Mustangs scored six runs in the sixth to take a 10-2 lead. Carroll scored its last two runs in the seventh as Holly walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Bubba Porter. Cutts then singled and stole second and Porter scored on the throw down.
Each team had 10 hits in the contest. Jacob Cutts pitching the first five innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits and five walks. Zack Down pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks. Bubba Porter pitching 1 1/3 of an inning and didn’t give up a run on one hit.
