The J.Z. George boys basketball team had their season come to an end last Tuesday as Madison St. Joe claimed a 63-57 win in the first round of the State 2A Tournament in North Carrollton.
J.Z. George (9-15), which was the second seed from Region 2, held a 16-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Bruins took a 29-25 lead by halftime. St. Joe only led by two at 41-39 after the third period. The Bruins held a 22-18 advantage in the fourth period.
D’Anthony McGlothan had 24 points, and Malik Branch tacked on 14 for the Jags. Alex Chriss had nine points, and Jordun Normal and Keldrick Glover had four each.
The Lady Jaguars closed out their season on Feb. 17 with a 47-35 loss at Pelahatchie in the first round of the State 2A Tournament.
J.Z. George went 7-19 in LeQuell Allen's first season as head coach. Allen also served as the head coach for the Jaguars.
Tashanda Fleming and Jasmine Newman made the Region 2 all-district team, while Jakyla Winters received honorable mention.
For the boys, McGlothan and Branch made all-district, and Glover received honorable mention.
