The Carroll Academy basketball teams split a pair of games last week with wins over Canton and losses to Kirk.
The Lady Rebels hammered Canton 48-15 but fell 45-41 to Kirk. The Rebels, who were playing without four starters who were in the MAIS all-star football game, beat Canton 52-49 but lost 63-49 to Kirk.
Carroll was scheduled to return to action this week as they travel to Benton on Monday and host Winona on Tuesday to begin district play. Carroll will then host central Holmes on Friday in another district contest.
Kirk girls 45, Carroll 41
The Lady Raiders jumped ahead early and held on to take a four-point win over the Lady Rebels.
Kirk started quick as they led 16-6 at the end of the first and 26-19 at the half. Carroll outscored Kirk 10-9 in the third and 12-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Dru Chamblee led Carroll with 16 points and four steals while Gracie Turner had eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Lainey Claire Dunn also had eight points for the Lady Rebels.
Kirk boys 63, Carroll 49
The Rebels led late but an out of gas as the Raiders pulled away for a 14-point win.
Kirk led 16-11 at the end of the first period before Carroll outscored the Raiders 15-7 in the second to lead 26-23 at the half. The Rebels led 38-34 after the third period before the Raiders used a 29-point period to take the win.
“They fought hard,” Carroll coach Tommy Acy said. “With the football players out with the all-star game, we played with two juniors and three ninth graders for most of the game. We had the lead going into the fourth, they just gave out. They fought hard and that’s all I can ask.”
Noah Beck led Carroll with 19 points while Brett Harper had eight points. Brennan Blaylock and Maddox Carpenter each had seven points each.
Carroll girls 48, Canton 15
The Lady Rebels dominated from the beginning as they took a 33-point win over the Lady Panthers.
Carroll led 11-0 at the end of the first and 25-6 at the half. The Lady Rebels put the game away in the third, outscoring Canton 17-4 to lead 42-10 going to the fourth.
Gracie Turner led Carroll with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Mary Jordan Milton had nine points. Dru Chamblee and Lainey Claire Dunn each had six pints while Kaitlyn Chamblee and Mary Lakyn Boutwell had three steals apiece.
Carroll boys 52, Canton 49
The Rebels grabbed a win with the football players out as they came from behind to beat the Panthers by three.
Canton got off to a fast start, leading 15-7 at the end of the first and 31-19 at the half. The Rebels outscored the Panthers 17-12 in the third to pull within seven at 43-36. The Rebels then outscored the Panthers 16-6 in the fourth to take the win.
Bryce Collier led Carroll with 16 points and seven rebounds while Brennan Blaylock had 13 points. Noah Beck had 11 points while Hunter Grantham had nine points and eight rebounds.
