Man charged in shooting

A Winona man went before Judge Alan D. Lancaster on an initial appearance for an incident that happened Monday, April 12.
Charles Petty, Jr., is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm from an incident that allegedly stemmed from a shooting on the evening of April 12 in the North Union Street area.

Winona Christian tennis wins district title

The Winona Christian School tennis team clinched the district title last week on the road with a team win over Indianola Academy. Last Thursday’s win makes the Stars undefeated in district play, with wins over Indianola Academy, Winston Academy, and Oak Hill.

Winona Tigers win district

After several high-scoring games this season and clinching the district title, the Winona Tigers had a pair of tight games this past week.
The Tigers beat Calhoun Academy 6-2 on Tuesday and then lost a 5-3 game to Eupora on Thursday.

Rebs to compete Sat.

Carroll Academy not only had to fight with their rivals, Winona Christian, they also had a battle Friday with Central Holmes Christian School at their track meet at Canton Academy. And battle, the three schools did. The schools were neck and neck in their heats with their times being just seconds behind each other.
