Workers are putting the last finishing touches on the new walking track at the Carroll County Recreation Park. Monday during their board meeting in Vaiden, the Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted to name the walking trail at the Carroll County Recreation Park after Mr. George Johnson.
“He goes above and beyond more than anyone I know,” Neill said.
“And for no pay,” Supervisor Terry Brown added.
“We appreciate everything that Mr. George does and I wanted to do something to honor him,” Supervisor Jim Neill said. He said the stone path would be named the Beasley Creek Nature Trail and, he wasn’t sure, but the concession stand was in honor of Bonnie Wiggins.
“I don’t know if it’s named after her, but I know it’s in honor of her and we wanted to do something to honor Mr. George,” Neill said.
“Well, that’s alright,” Johnson said, smiling.
“Maybe this will make your stay on a little while longer,” Board President Rickie Corley told Johnson.
Chris Pope with North Central Planning and Development District told the board that when the plaques come in naming the trees, it would elevate the status of the nature trail making it an arboretum.
“It would elevate the status of the trail,” Pope said.
