The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors have not yet decided on a dangerous dog ordinance, however, they are looking at a possible partnership with the City of Winona.
Board President Keith McGee is expected to speak with Winona Mayor Jerry Flowers on the possibilities of partnering with the city on animal control.
The City of Winona did not discuss the measure at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Winona Board of Aldermen, but the agenda was set last Friday for Tuesday’s meeting.
In other county business:
• Supervisors approved the attendance of Montgomery County Economic Development Director Sue Stidham to attend an ACT Work-Ready workshop in May. The Montgomery County Board of Supervisor already voted to become an ACT Work-Ready county, a program that will better prepare the workforce for future industrial jobs.
• The board approved a new school bus turnaround at 54 Scroggins Road.
• The board approved purchasing county maps.
• The board approved making District 3 Supervisor Willie Townsend, Jr., an authorized signee for the North District Water Association. Townsend currently serves as vice president of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors and needs approval to sign on the board’s behalf when McGee is not available.
• The board entered into a signed agreement with Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to receive approximately $10,000 to help clean up unauthorized dumping sites along the county’s roadsides.
• The board spread upon the minutes a letter from Waste Pro which alerted the county of a 1.1 percent increase in the county’s garbage collection fees, effective May 1. However, garbage rates for county residents did not increase.
• The Winona Montgomery Consolidated School District deeded back to Montgomery County land near the Montgomery County Justice Court Complex, land that once was in development for a softball complex. However, the complex was built at the Winona Recreational Park. According to Supervisor Ron Wood, if the school district did not use the property, it should be returned to the county for future development.
