As the primary gets closer, many groups are planning rallies to help voters to hear from the various candidates and make informed decisions in August and again in November. This year’s election will determine who will be the next sheriff, chancery clerk, circuit clerk, coroner, county prosecutor, supervisors, tax assessor and collector, judges and constables for the next four years.
The Montgomery County Voter’s League will hold a Meet the Candidate event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The meet and greet is a way for the public to meet those running for seats in the 2019 election, and League President Dave Magee said it’s open to any candidate.
The League will hold its political rally from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 29. Magee shared the same sentiments as Henderson that it’s for the people to make an informed decision of who they would like to see in office and the rally is open to anyone running for candidacy.
“It’s about the growth, development and prosperity of our county,” Magee said. More information about the League’s Political Rally will be given when it’s released closer to the rally.
The Carroll County Republican Party will host a political rally on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse.
Vice Chair Paul Henderson said the rally is open to any candidate who will be on the ballot in Carroll County. He said he'd contacted the gubernatorial candidates, and those who cannot attend will send representatives.
Henderson said the rally is important because Carroll County is a small county that gets overlooked when it comes to the big statewide races.
“We get overlooked by the state candidates because we don’t have very many voters here. I want our people to look at them and make a good decision on who they want to vote for and represent them in government,” he said.
Henderson said the rally will end when everyone has a chance to speak. “I want them to see who they feel like they need to represent them. As Vice-Chair of the Carroll County Republican Party, I wanted to do something for the county and not just for the party,” he said.
Liberty Baptist Church will sell catfish plates and barbecue to those attending the Carrollton rally to help send their youth on a mission trip.
