Two candidates qualified this week to seek the office of tax collector, and a fourth candidate has joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s race.
According to the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk’s office, Sue Stidham, the current director of the Winona Main Street/Montgomery County Economic Development Partnership, qualified last week to run for the Montgomery County Tax Assessor/Collector seat as an independent candidate. Challenging for the same seat, Teresa Nabors Green of Winona has also qualified. She is running on the democratic ticket.
Longtime incumbent Velma Young has not yet qualified for the race.
Also new to the political arena this year, Barry Gregg, a deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, is running for the office of sheriff as an independent candidate. Gregg joins incumbent Bubba Nix and fellow challengers Jamey Mims and Jeff Tompkins in the race.
Currently, only the race of Constable District 2 has drawn two qualifiers – incumbent Jerry Dale Bridges, a Democrat, is facing Bryan Lott, an independent, in November’s election.
Incumbents Ryan Wood, chancery clerk; Lanelle G. Martin, circuit clerk; Allan Pratt, coroner; Keith Stokes Roberts, justice court judge District 1; Larry Bamberg, justice court judge District 2; L.C. Smith, constable District 1; and Supervisors Keith McGee, Edwin Taylor, Willie Earl Townsend, Ron Wood, and Janet Roby-Harper have all qualified for re-election.
