A Winona man is facing multiple charges for auto burglary.
Chivan M. Thompson, 26, of Winona was arrested and charged with six counts of auto burglary after a two-week investigation by the Winona Police Department.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the department, Thompson is charged with burglaries that occurred from November 23 through December 7 in various locations around the city.
“The first one was on November 23 in downtown,” Herod said. “The most recent was December 7 around Knox Gym.”
Herod said there were several auto burglaries near Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital. He said various items were taken from the vehicles.
“[Thompson’s] arrest was the result of a two-week investigation that involved viewing video footage from different businesses in Winona,” Herod said.
Herod said it also involved police surveillance of the suspect over multiple days.
Herod said bond for Thompson was set at $60,000, or $10,000 for each county. He is currently being held in the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden, and his preliminary hearing is set for today at 9 a.m. in Winona City Court.
