WINONA – Two men are recovering from gunshot wounds and one is in police custody following a shooting last Thursday.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, Eddie Green, 28, of Winona has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with an April 11 shooting on Academy Street near Mortimer.
According to Herod, just after 7 p.m. on April 11, Winona police responded to a report of shots fired on Academy Street, however, when they arrived at the scene, they found no victims of a shooting. Shortly after, another call was received from the Emergency Room at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital reporting that a patient was being treated for a gunshot wound.
“He was shot in the upper back area,” Herod said. “He was flown to [University of Mississippi Medical Center] in Jackson.”
Herod said while police were at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital, a second gunshot victim came into the Emergency Room.
“A second victim came in shot in the same instance,” Herod said.
The second victim was shot in the left buttock, and he was treated locally and released.
Herod would not release the identities of either victim in the case.
“Our investigation led us to Eddie Green,” Herod said. “He was arrested that night around 11 p.m.”
Green is currently being held at the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden on a $500,000 bond, $250,000 for each count of aggravated assault.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Herod said.
