The Winona Christian Lady Stars are headed to the Class 3A state softball tournament.
Winona finished third in the North 3A Tournament on Monday to advance to the Class 3A state tournament this Saturday. The Class 3A Tournament will be played at the Magee Sportsplex.
Winona improved to 17-19 on the season.
Lee Academy 11, Winona Christian 1
The Lady Stars lost in the third-place game on Monday, falling to Lee Academy in five innings.
Lee scored two in the first and fourth, three in the third and fifth and one in the third. Winona scored one in the second and had just two hits.
Hope Pierce and Haley Beckwith each had singles while McKinley Ingram scored on an RBI from Lennie Wood.
Winona 12, Carroll 10
The Lady Stars scored eight runs in the third and held on to take a two-run win over Lady Rebels on Monday.
Carroll scored four in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Winona scored one in the first, eight in the third, one in the third and two in the sixth to take th win.
Winona had 13 hits as Sara Rawls was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Lennie Wood was also 3-for-4 while Ashley Parkinson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Haley Beckwith was 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Hope Pierce and Kaylah Brooke Varnes each scored two runs apiece.
Sara Rawles pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on two hits and three walks. Hope Pierce pitched 2 innings and gave up five runs on five hits and struck out five to pick up the win. Allie Rawles pitch 2 2/3 of an inning and gave up one run on one hit and struck out two.
Winona Christian 13, Indianola 3
The Lady Stars scored nine runs in the first inning and took a run-rule win over Indianola on Saturday in an elimination game.
Winona added two in the third and fifth innings.
The Lady Stars had 15 hits, led by Sara Rawles who was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and six RBIs. Hope Pierce was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Ashleigh Parkinson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Lennie Wood and Kaylah Brooke Varnes each went 2-for-3.
Sara Rawles pitched all five innings and gave up three runs on four hits and struck out two.
Marshall Academy 8, Winona 0
The Lady Stars managed just three hits in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday. Marshall scored five in the first, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Lennie Wood was 2-for-3 for Winona while McKinley Ingram also had a single. Hope Pierce and Allie Rawles each pitched three innings for Winona.
Winona 13, Kirk 1
The Lady Stars used a big first inning and took a four-inning, run-rule win to open the Class 3A Tournament on Saturday. After a nine-run first inning, Winona scored four in the third.
Winona had just six hits but drew six walks, had three batters hit and two reach on errors. Harlie Whitten was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while McKinley Ingram walked twice, scored twice and had four RBIs. Haley Beckwith walked twice and scored twice while Ashleigh Parkinson scored three times. Hope Pierce and Miranda McDaniel each scored two runs apiece.
Sara Rawles pitched all four inning and gave up three hits and struck out three.
Winona 12, Indianola 3
The Lady Stars used a pair of four-run innings to beat the Lady Colonels on senior night on Monday.
Winona had 14 hits in the contest, led by Harlee Whitten who was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. McKinley Ingram was 3-for-4 with a double while Kaylah Brooke Varnes was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Haley Beckwith also scored twice.
Hope Pierce pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on three hits while Sara Rawles pitched 2 2/3 innings and struck out three.
